In memoriam: Wayne Elzey


Wayne Elzey, former professor of comparative religion at Miami University, died of pancreatic cancer March 27 at his home in Brookville, Ind. He was 70.

Elzey was an expert in prehistoric Meso-American cultures, making numerous research trips to Mexico and Central America. He published extensively on Aztec and Mayan cultures. He taught at Miami for 33 years.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Elzey; his three children, Christopher (Karen) of Washington, D.C.; Becca (Dave) Voss of Minneapolis, Minn., and their two daughters, Claire and Molly; Vangie Elzey of Oxford, and her two sons, Jacob and Nathan Beck; stepson Scott Cromer of Portland, Ore.; son-in-law John Lange of Atlanta, Ga., and his two children, Emma and Jack.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville, Ind.
