Finch Lecture features Miami alumni in international security


Miami University's department of political science hosts its annual Finch Lecture in International Affairs at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in 111 Harrison Hall. This year the lecture features four experts in international security who are all alumni of Miami's political science program.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Kristen Dowley, ‘99; Chris Quillen, ‘93; Alex Vacca, ‘95; and James Warden, ‘95 will be available on April 11 to meet with classes as well as after the lecture to discuss their careers in international affairs.

Dowley manages public affairs and the Public-Private Partnerships portfolio for the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement. The office, which is a part of the Political-Military Bureau, Department of State, implements and monitors policies that address the security challenges caused by the illegal proliferation of conventional weapons in post-conflict areas.

Quillen is the vice president for education and training at the Advanced Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) in Dayton.

Vacca is corporate director of business assessment at Northrop Grumman’s headquarters. His responsibilities include strategic planning and sourcing, and assessing the technological and financial capabilities of the defense industrial base.

Warden is a foreign affairs officer in the Office of Nuclear Energy, Safety and Security in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation at the U.S. Department of State.

The lecture will follow the department of political science awards recognition ceremony.
