Dance Theatre concerts April 14, 15

Miami University's Dance Theatre will present its annual spring concerts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in Hall Auditorium. The concerts combine elements of different dance forms and feature music that ranges from the sounds of the Big Band era to Philip Glass to contemporary.

Featured will be works choreographed by Dance Theatre director Lana Kay Rosenberg; guest artists Joanna Kotze (Miami ’98), a New York City-based dancer and choreographer; Shannon Vroom (Miami ’06); and Gregory Robinson, freelance choreographer and former artistic associate of the Dayton Ballet; and current company members.

Rosenberg choreographed “Two for Three,” a tap dance set to music from the Big Band era, and a solo work, “For Finley.”

Kotze’s “Here, There” contrasts electric music with acoustic guitar; Vroom’s “Promethea” is set to music by Johan Soderqvist from the film “In a Better World; and Robinson’s “Dream Journal” is set to music from Philip Glass’ string quartet “Company.”

Student-choreographed works include “Ode to Rosie” by Caroline Ferris, senior art history major; “Harrowing Reverie” by Sami Ackard, junior psychology major and Spanish minor; and “Take it Away” by Alex Hinton, sophomore mass communication major.

A talkback will follow the Saturday performance.

Tickets, available at the Miami University box office in Shriver Center, are free for Miami students; $6 in advance/$8 at the door for other students/seniors; and $10 in advance/$12 at the door for general admission.
