Sinclair and Miami University's regional campuses sign articulation agreement

Sinclair College and Miami University's regional campuses have signed an articulation agreement that is intended to improve service to students of both institutions.

The pathway created by the agreement is designed to increase the number of adults with meaningful workplace credentials and to ultimately increase the number of Ohioans with bachelor's degrees. The initial agreement focuses on the growing field of health information technology, a field expected to grow by 20 percent in the next five years.

Health information professionals work in a relatively new field and need skills in technical support, database administration, data analysis and software testing, as well as in human health fundamentals. They can be employed in hospitals, nursing homes, insurance companies, education environments and government agencies.

Under the new agreement, students can spend the first two years at Sinclair and then transfer to one of Miami’s regional campuses in Middletown or Hamilton to complete a bachelor’s degree program in health information technology.

“Sinclair is proud to join with Miami University in creating this pathway for the students of Southwest Ohio,” Sinclair President Steve Johnson said. “These programs provide much needed skills and opportunities for the working professionals of Southwest Ohio and in an urgently needed profession. I am pleased that we are working together to continue to meet this emerging need.”

“We need to eliminate barriers and create clear and easy pathways to help the citizens of the region achieve their educational goals,” said Michael Pratt, dean of Miami University’s regional campuses. “By developing partnerships like this one, we are on the leading edge of solving Ohio’s higher education problems. Each institution plays to its strengths and our students benefit.”
