Extended campus bus routes begin Aug. 20

08/16/2012

An agreement with Butler County Regional Transit Authority, a public transit system, brings enhanced transportation options for Miami students, faculty and staff beginning Aug. 20.

While a no-cost route was available in recent years between Oxford and Hamilton, on bus rides between Oxford and Middletown, Miamians used to pay a $2 fare. With the new agreement, students, faculty and staff with Miami IDs can ride fare-free on both routes.

Members of the public may also ride the routes but will pay the $2 fare.

All of BCRTA’s vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts and bicycle racks.

The Oxford-Hamilton route provides longer hours of service this year; the buses will run from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday-Friday, except national holidays and long school breaks. There also will be more frequent stops – hourly instead of every hour and a half. After leaving Hamilton, this bus will also stop at Fairfield Crossings (Symmes Rd.), where there is a connection to the Cincinnati Metro route 23X bus line.

The Oxford-Middletown route runs approximately 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The schedules for the two routes are attached below and at http://www.butlercountyrta.com, under Ride-Options/Special Shuttles.

Officials hope that a route connecting the Middletown and Hamilton campuses will be available in the near future.
