Homecoming 2012 includes a week of activities: a parade at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, starting in uptown Oxford on High Street; an unveiling of the newest and final statue - Paul Brown - on the Cradle of Coaches Plaza; and a noon kick-off Saturday as the RedHawks take on the University of Massachusetts at Yager Stadium.

Nicknamed the “Cradle of Coaches,” Miami launched the careers of legendary football coaches such as Paul Brown, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Ara Parseghian, Weeb Ewbank and Sid Gillman. In addition, 19 collegiate and professional coaches with Miami roots have been named National Coach of the Year.

The public unveiling ceremony takes place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

The football game starts at noon Saturday. During halftime, the 2012-13 Cradle of Coaches Association inductees - Thad Matta, Randy Ayers, Joe Novak, Sandy Pearsall and Sue Ramsey - will be recognized.

A gift from the family of Thomas P. Van Voorhis provided the crowning touches to Miami University's Cradle of Coaches Plaza. The $1 million gift, provided by Daniel T. Van Voorhis — a grandson of Thomas P. Van Voorhis - went to the creation of nine heroic-scale figures to represent and honor legendary former Miami coaches at the heart of the "Cradle of Coaches" tradition.

Eight of the statues honor Miami graduates who have earned recognition as national collegiate or professional coaches of the year and/or been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The honorees are: Earl "Red" Blaik, Weeb Ewbank, Paul Brown, Paul Dietzel, Ara Parseghian, John Pont, Bo Schembechler and Carm Cozza.

The ninth sculpture represents and honors Thomas Van Voorhis, a coach, physical education instructor and athletic administrator for Miami from 1921-56 who taught many Cradle members in the classroom.

Renowned artist Kristen Visbal of Lewes, Del., sculpted all nine statues. Residents of southwest Ohio are familiar with Visbal's sculpture of American patriot Alexander Hamilton that is displayed on High Street in downtown Hamilton.
