"Dead and Buried" opens Oct. 3; post-show talk by playwright James McLindon Oct. 5

“Dead and Buried,” by James McLindon, the first production in the department of theatre’s 2012-2013 season, will be performed at 8 p.m. Oct. 3-6, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 7, in Gates-Abegglen Theatre, Center for Performing Arts. It is directed by Lewis Magruder, assistant professor of theatre.

“Dead and Buried,” a comic drama, premiered at the Detroit Repertory Theatre in March 2012 and was a semifinalist for the 2011 O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. The play tells the story of a young woman's quest to learn something about her birth mother, a woman she never knew. Set in a cemetery, it weaves themes of life, death, discovery and loss around moments of lightness and humor.

Playwright James McLindon is a Dramatists Guild Fellow for 2012-2013. He graduated from Harvard Law School where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review before turning to playwriting. Among other fellowships, he was a New Voices Playwriting Fellow with the New Repertory Theatre in Boston.

McLindon will give a talk and hold a question and answer session immediately after the performance Friday, Oct. 5.

Tickets are $9 public, $8 seniors and $6 students/youth and are available at the Miami University box office at 529-3200 or www.tickets.muohio.edu.

A curricular discount is available to faculty who give credit to students who attend the performance for class: To receive the discount price faculty should contact the box office and give their name and the name of their course. The discount price is $4 per ticket to students and faculty receive 2 free tickets.
