"Russian Tide": John Pepper, former Procter & Gamble CEO, presents annual Havighurst Lecture Oct. 18

John Pepper, former chairman of the board and Chief Executive Officer of Procter & Gamble, will present "Russian Tide: Building a Leadership Business in the Midst of Unprecedented Change" at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Taylor Auditorium, Farmer School of Business. His talk is the annual Havighurst Lecture sponsored by the Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies.

Pepper joined Procter & Gamble in 1963 and was named president of the company in 1986. He served as the ninth chairman of the board and CEO of P&G, retiring in 2002.

He spent a 40-year career in various positions at P&G, including CEO and chairman of the board from 1995 to 1999 and chairman of the board from 2000 to 2002. He served as director from 1984 to 2003 and president from 1986 to 1995.

Pepper currently serves as co-chairman of the board of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and was CEO from January 2006 to May 2007.

He served as chairman of the board of the Walt Disney Company from January 2007 through March 2012 and has served as a member of its board since January 2006. He also served as vice president of finance and administration at Yale University from January 2004 to December 2005.

Russian Tide

In his lecture, Pepper will discuss his new book, Russian Tide, tracing the development of P&G’s business in Russia during the 1990s and building the largest and longest-established foreign investment in Russia.

The Havighurst Lecture is co-sponsored by the Farmer School of Business, the international studies program, and the department of political science.
