Miami University's 2011 Recensio yearbook received the prestigious Pacemaker Award at the 2012 National College Media Conference in Chicago Saturday, Nov. 3. This award is given to the top yearbooks in the country by the Associated Collegiate Press.

The yearbook, titled “Forever Young,” was one of two smaller yearbooks (300 pages or fewer) chosen to win this national journalism award. The Recensio had been a finalist for this award five times; this is the first time the yearbook has won.

Brianna Mulligan (Miami ’11) and Ryan Amos (Miami ’11) were co-editors of the 2011 Recensio and came up with the theme based on the popular song lyrics – a theme that was carried along each page of the book.

2013 Recensio editor Kelsie Walker and adviser Sacha DeVroomen Bellman, journalism instructor, accepted the award for the yearbook at the conference in Chicago.

The 2011 ACP Yearbook Pacemaker contest yielded 53 entries. A team of judges comprising experienced journalism professionals and educators traveled to Minneapolis in late January to select the finalists.

Judges commented that the books chosen as finalists had elegant and sophisticated design, balanced coverage, strong and detailed writing, outstanding photography and comprehensive themes.

Recensio also has garnered other national awards in recent years.
