John Burke honored by library group

John Burke
John Burke, director of Gardner-Harvey Library at Miami University Middletown, received the Academic Library Association of Ohio's (ALAO) Jay Ladd Distinguished Service Award at the organization's annual conference last month.

This award recognizes individuals who have promoted academic libraries and librarianship not only on their own campuses, but also within the state. Burke was cited for his commitment to moving his library forward with innovative ideas and having his entire staff involved in scholarship. His service as ALAO president and board member were also noted.

Burke came to Miami Middletown in 2002. Prior to this he was a librarian at U.C. Raymond Walters and Fairmont State College in West Virginia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Tennessee.

“Congratulations to John on receiving this prestigious award,” said Regional Associate Dean for Administration Lee Sanders. “Everyone who has the good fortune to work with John knows that his professionalism and enthusiasm for our libraries are boundless.”
