Miami students awarded Gilman Scholarships for international study

Three Miami University students have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships to study abroad during spring 2013.

More than 800 U.S. students received Gilman Scholarships for international study in spring 2013. Miami student recipients are:

  • Tangelica Glover, junior Chinese education and Spanish major from Pleasant Run Farm, for study in Chile;
  • Sarah McKinsey, junior history major from Lakewood, for study in Northern Ireland, UK; and
  • Katie Tomassetti, junior international studies, Latin American Studies and political science major from Saint Clairsville, for study in Argentina.

Miami scholarship recipients were awarded a total of $12,500.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, now in its 12th year, aims to broaden the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might be otherwise unable to due to financial constraints.

The program also supports students studying in non-traditional countries, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and students with diverse ethnic backgrounds.

The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Institute of International Education.
