Miami is partnering with Google to provide faculty and staff Google Apps for Education, including Gmail to manage email accounts, Google Calendar and Contacts, plus a range of other Google tools. There are some small tasks employees will want to do before the move.
Detailed instructions can be found online: Prepare to Migrate on the Go Google website.
1. Find large messages
The tool for migrating from Microsoft Exchange to Google will not allow the moving of messages larger than 25MB. Messages larger than 25MB usually contain large attachments. For this reason, prior to the Google migration on Dec. 21, you should find your large messages in Exchange and save any attachments that you need to keep.
2. Find contact groups
In Exchange, you may have created contact groups, or personal email groups. These cannot be automatically migrated to Google, so if you want to recreate these groups in Google, you will have to find the groups and print out a membership list.
3. Deal with notes and tasks
The migration tool will not migrate Exchange Notes and Tasks, however the Google Apps Sync for Outlook tool will. Visit the Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook Installation and Setup page for more information.
