Oxford Chamber Orchestra Rocks the Classical: Performance streamed live Jan. 17

Fans of rock and roll and classical music: enjoy a performance by Miami University’s Oxford Chamber Orchestra streamed live from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17.

The Oxford Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Ricardo Averbach, with Thomas Garcia, solo guitar, along with the student a capella group Mergers and the Northern Kentucky University Ensemble, will perform "Classic Rock and Rock the Classical" - arrangements of songs by the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and others - as part of a "Teachers Rock" workshop at the Rock Hall of Fame.

The Teachers Rock workshop is co-hosted by the College Orchestra Directors Association (CODA), whose National Conference Jan. 17-19 is held in association with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music.

Averbach is the national vice president of CODA.


The Oxford Chamber Orchestra comprises a select group of students who are members of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra.

They will perform "Beatlerianas: From Yesterday to Penny Lane," a Beatles medley with seven movements, composed by Leo Brouwer and based on the original Beatles tunes.
