Nominations are due Monday, Feb. 4, for leadership awards presented by Miami University's women's center: the Women's Leadership and Male Ally Awards and the Jennie Elder Suel Distinguished Woman of Color Award.
The Women’s Leadership and Male Ally Awards honors individuals who have distinguished themselves in their respective communities and organizations as advocates for equality and models of leadership. These awards are for individuals have challenged societal norms, expectations, and the limitations of gender roles.
The awards will be presented on Feb. 21 at Celebrating Women’s Leadership in the Shriver Heritage Room. This year’s keynote speaker is Susan Davis-Ali, founder and president of Leadhership1, a coaching company committed to helping women achieve greater success. Registration for the event is required. Nominations for the Jennie Elder Suel Woman of Color Award are due Feb. 4 for service-driven and spirited women of color. The award will be presented at the Celebrating Global Sisterhood event on Mar. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Shriver Multipurpose Room.
The award was first presented in 1994 to Jennie Elder Suel for her service to the Miami and Oxford communities, providing housing, meals and entertainment to Miami students.
The 2013 Jennie Elder Suel Distinguished Woman of Color Award will be presented at the Celebrating Global Sisterhood event (formerly known as Women of Color Celebration) 11 a.m.-1 p.m. March 6 in the Shriver Multipurpose Rooms. Tickets for this event will go on sale at the Shriver box office on Feb. 1.
