Tiffany Willoughby Herard, assistant professor of African American Studies at University of California-Irvine, headlines this year's Race, Class, Gender, Sexuality Symposium 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Shriver Center multipurpose room.

Her lecture topic, “Tell Me About Your Mother/s: A Genealogy of Contemporary Organizing in South Africa," is part of a one-day series of workshops, panels and roundtables that feature local and regional students, faculty, staff and community members. The symposium is co-presented by Wright State University women’s studies programs and Miami’s women’s center.

The presentation will examine the political and social strategies and the ethical percepts, which the African women had to go through. They survived migration and intervened in the shape and structure of the forces of involuntary migration and the construction of rural and urban spaces.

Admission is free to the public.
