Miami University Middletown will host a Chinese New Year celebration 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in Dave Finkelman Auditorium.
The afternoon will begin with the “Spring Festival Overture,” a famous Chinese composition written for the celebration of the Chinese New Year more than 50 years ago, performed by visiting Chinese artists and the Miami University Symphony Orchestra. The program will continue with the “Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto” performed by Ina Liu and the Miami University Symphony Orchestra.
Featured conductors for the program are Ricardo Averbach, director of orchestral studies at Miami University and Jiang Liu, conductor of Chengdu Symphony Orchestra and Sichuan Symphony Orchestra in China.
Performances by students from local schools will include traditional Chinese song and dance, poetry and martial arts.
This event is co-organized by the regional dean’s office, office of international programs at Miami University Hamilton and Middletown, and the music department of Miami University. This program is free and open to the public.
