Alysia Fischer wins third place in Eco Arts Awards competition

Alysia Fischer (MFA '11), lecturer in the Center for American and World Cultures, won third place for her work “Curtain” in the Eco Arts Awards, in the category of Repurposed Materials in Art and Design.

All finalists and winners were selected by a professional panel of jurors for their creative excellence and unique approach to the ecology theme.

The Eco Arts Awards are given in the categories of songwriting, fine art, literature and repurposed materials; entries come from around the world. The Grand Prize Winner was “No Borders,” a song by Todd Smallwood and Carlos Santana.

Fischer also received the Award of Distinction for “Curtain” in the juried exhibition “Fine Contemporary Craft.”

She received her master’s of fine arts in studio art at Miami with Susan Ewing, Distinguished Professor of Art and associate dean of the School of Creative Arts.

Fischer has been working with a group of students at Talawanda High School on a sculpture for the lobby of the new high school. The sculpture, due to be completed at the end of this month, is made of repurposed materials from the old Talawanda High School, which was vacated last summer. Read about the process on her blog.
