James Lentini to be honored by Wayne State University

Miami University's James Lentini, professor and dean of the School of Creative Arts, will be presented the Career Achievement Award in the Field of Music on Friday, March 22, at Wayne State University's 34th Arts Achievement Awards.

The purpose of the awards, presented by Wayne State University’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, is to recognize outstanding alumni and former students of Wayne State University for their dedication to and advocacy for the arts and communication, as well as achievements in their fields.

Lentini (Wayne State ’82), award-winning composer and guitarist, is a recipient of the Segovia International Composition Prize, the McHugh Composition Prize and first prize at the Bluffton University Choral Competition, in addition to awards from Meet the Composer and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

His compositions have been performed by ensembles such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Kraków Philharmonic and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic.

Lentini also served as a juror for the Segovia International Guitar Competition in La Herradura, Spain, and was a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome.
