Xia elected Fellow of Optical Society of America

Tiejun Xia, adjunct professor of electrical and computer engineering and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Verizon, was elected as a Fellow of the Optical Society of America
Tiejun Xia, adjunct professor of electrical and computer engineering at Miami University, was elected a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA). He is recognized for his significant contributions to high-speed optical transport network technology and architecture development.

Xia will be recognized at a ceremony during the Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) March 17-21 in Anaheim, Calif.

Xia is an expert in photonic technologies and optical communications in research, development and technology innovations. In addition to his position at Miami, he is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff with Verizon, where his responsibility is optical network architectures and network designs, focusing on high-speed and high-capacity optical transport networks.

Working with leading optical transport system developers in the industry, Xia has led several record-breaking technology trials for 100 gigabyte (GB) Ethernet and beyond, including the world’s first 100 GB per second (100 Gb/s) Ethernet transport field trial with live traffic in 2007.

He has published more than 100 technical papers and holds more than 60 granted or pending U.S. patents.

In 2011, he was featured as a “Verizon Innovator” on YouTube.
