Cesar Chavez Celebration Program March 21


Cesar Chavez (1927-1993), civil rights, Latino and farm labor leader, was posthumously awarded the presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994.
Leo Calderon, director of the office of Latino Student Affairs at Northern Kentucky University, will present "Transforming Our Future Today: Social Responsibility, Leadership, and Civic Engagement" at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Shriver Center Heritage Room. His talk is part of the Cesar Chavez Celebration Program co-sponsored by the Center for American and World Cultures and the office of diversity affairs.

Calderon advises major corporations, schools and non-profit organizations on how to effectively address the educational needs of the growing Latino population.

His talk is free and open to the public.

Cesar Chavez Celebration events on Friday, March 22, in 212 MacMIllan Hall include:

Noon- 1 p.m. Panel, "Social Responsibility, Leadership and Civic Engagement"
1-2 p.m.: Documentary Screening "Viva La Causa"
2-3 p.m.: "Breaking Bread" program and exhibit opening (MacMillan Hall lobby)
