"Jeopardy!" champ Ken Jennings April 22

Ken Jennings, the all-time "Jeopardy!" champion and the author of Maphead: Charting the Wide, Weird World of Geography Wonks, will speak twice on Monday, April 22: on "Obsession with Maps" at 3 p.m. in 115 Shideler Hall; and on "The Rewards of Geographic Curiosity" at 7:30 p.m. in Hall Auditorium. Jennings is the department of geography's 2013 McConnell Lecturer.

Jennings not only holds the record for the most consecutive wins on “Jeopardy!,” but holds the record for having won the most money via American game show participation.

At the 7:30 p.m. lecture, Jennings will first engage in a mock “Jeopardy!” round with one undergraduate and one graduate student.

Undergraduates interested in playing against Ken Jennings can try out at lunchtime on Friday, April 19, in Haines Food Court at Shriver Center.

Graduate student tryout information is on the geography department website.

In his book, Maphead: Charting the Wide, Weird World of Geography Wonks, Jennings searches for fellow map nerds like antique map collectors, atlas publishers, geocachers, geography bee prodigies, systematic travelers, and “road geeks” in an attempt to “save the world from geographic illiteracy before it’s too late.”

The events are free and open to the public. They are co-sponsored by the campus activities council, the international studies program, the Graduate School and the honors program.
