The Miami University Men's Glee Club, directed by Jeremy Jones, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27, in Hall Auditorium.

The concert will feature the premiere of a commissioned work, “Make a Joyful Noise,” by Roderick Nimtz, Miami ’79, MA ‘81, director of Miami’s Voice of America Learning Center and Glee Club alumnus.

The piece was written in honor of John “Doc” Wabrick (1929-2012), professor emeritus at Miami and the Glee Club’s 12th director who retired in 1988 after serving for 24 years. Nimtz joined the Glee Club as a student in the fall of 1977 and became accompanist two years later, serving for 12 years.

"Fitting tribute"
“Make a Joyful Noise” launches a special series of commissioned works to honor Wabrick and is part of an initiative to encourage and promote the creation of choral repertoire for male chorus.

“The commissioned series of works for Glee Club is a fitting tribute to Doc who instilled in all of us a love of the music, and through that a love of each other,” Nimtz said. “Bringing new music to the repertoire will make those opportunities available for generations to come at Miami and wherever the pieces may be performed.”

The group will perform a variety of other works including spirituals, three opera choruses and “Wedding Qawwali” from the musical “Bombay Dreams” with music by A.R. Rahman, arranged by Ethan Sperry, former Glee Club director.

Tickets, $7 adults, $5 students and seniors, are available at the Miami University box office in Shriver Center
