Symphony band performs April 30

The Miami University Symphony Band, conducted by Stephen Lytle, will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in Hall Auditorium.

Guest artist Airman 1st Class David Wuchter, trumpeter with the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, will perform with the group on “Metal,” by Brian Balmages, and on “Concertpiece for Trumpet and Concert Band,” by James Curnow.

The Symphony Band will also perform contemporary works including William Schuman’s “When Jesus Wept” (from “New England Tryptych”) with student soloists Mark Simmons, euphonium, and Jacob Walker, trumpet. The arrangement of “Cave,” by Russell Peck, will be performed in the dark with special lighting effects.
