Wind Ensemble performs May 3

The Miami University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Gary Speck, will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, in Hall Auditorium.

The program features Joseph Schwantner’s “... and the mountains rising nowhere,” a composition for wind ensemble that includes amplified piano, glass crystals and the human voice. The piece is considered one of the most significant wind ensemble works of the last 50 years.

Other selections include “American Salute” by Morton Gould; “Sanctuary” by Frank Ticheli; and “Music for Prague 1968” by Karel Husa.
