Music faculty members Audrey Luna, soprano, and Linda McAlister, soprano, instructor and coordinator of the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition, will perform an evening of German song at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in Souers Recital Hall. Bruce Murray, chair and professor of music, will accompany.

Luna and McAlister will perform songs by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss and Wolf.

McAlister, a 2001 Miami alumna, was named the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition coordinator last year. Miami was selected as the national headquarters for the William E. Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition in 2012.

“The competition provides us unprecedented access to the finest high school singers in the country,” said Benjamin Smolder, associate professor of music and competition director. “It provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recruit these talented students. Currently there are seven students enrolled who were part of the Schmidt Competition including two first place winners and a number of finalists."
