Miami and Oxford community members: donate furniture, school supplies and other items to ShareFest Oxford 2013 during Miami’s Move-Out Week, May 9-14.

ShareFest Oxford provides departing Miami students with a convenient and environmentally friendly way to donate usable furniture, food and clothing to local social service agencies at the end of the academic year.

The non-profit and governmental social service agencies that participate in Sharefest Oxford may give donated items to people in need or sell items through the ShareFest Super Store, with proceeds benefitting the agencies and their clients.

Participating agencies include The Family Resource Center, Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Butler County Children Services and Lighthouse Food Pantry.

Needed donations include furniture (not mattresses); clothing; school supplies; small electronics; cleaning supplies; and other items.

Schedule a pick up:

Off-campus students and Oxford community members may schedule a pick up through the ShareFest Oxford website. Volunteers will pick up donations from your house or apartment.

On-campus students may donate items at collection locations in each residence hall.

Last year nearly 130 off-campus households used the Sharefest Oxford website to schedule donation pickups. Although this number was down from ShareFest 2011, say Sharefest Oxford organizers, donations greatly benefited local organizations.

Sharefest Oxford 2012 donations benefitted:

Among other benefits (see the 2012 final report ),
• The Family Resource Center netted nearly $10,000 during the five-day sales event of donated items
• Butler County Children Services (BCCS) fulfilled the wish lists that BCCS case managers developed for families in need of furniture, microwaves, kitchenware and clothing.

ShareFest Oxford is supported by the help of volunteers from many organizations from Miami, Oxford and Butler County.

A record number of volunteers contributed to the success of ShareFest Oxford 2012: more than 250 individuals worked the five-day event, typically working a three-hour shift.

To volunteer for ShareFest 2013, go to VolunteerSpot on the Family Resource Center website.

Volunteers are needed to fill three-hour shifts 9 a.m.-6 p.m. May 7 through May 16.
