J. Peter Natale named new vice president for IT

05/13/2013

J. Peter Natale
J. Peter Natale, former CIO and senior vice president of information technology and business process at Becton Dickinson and Company (BD), has been named chief information officer and vice president for information technology at Miami University beginning July 1. In this role, Natale will provide executive direction and strategic vision for the university's information technology assets, infrastructure and services.

He will lead an IT staff of about 150.

“Joining Miami University, an institution with such incredibly rich traditions and extraordinary scholarly success, is a great honor for me … and to have the opportunity to do so during such a dynamic period in its 204-year history makes it even more exciting,” said Natale.

Natale was quick to acknowledge the efforts of Debra Allison, Miami’s current vice president for information technology, who is retiring.

“Debi and her team have done a great job in establishing a platform for Miami’s success. Our goal will be to work with university faculty, staff and students to build on that success as we advance the Miami 2020 vision laid out by President Hodge.”

Natale spent nine years at BD, where he led the information technology and business process activities for the $8 billion global medical technology company. Among his accomplishments, Natale was recognized for transforming BD’s information technology function. The effort resulted in substantial improvements in the company’s use of technology in product innovation, geographic expansion and on-going operations while at the same time reducing the overall cost of IT operations from 4.1 percent to 2.3 percent of revenues.

“Peter will provide extraordinary leadership in Miami’s IT area, significantly enhancing the transformational learning and work environments so vital for the future,” said David Hodge, Miami’s president. “He has an exceptional record of accomplishment and a deep passion for building great teams and great organizations.”

Before his tenure at BD, Natale served in various roles at General Electric divisions from 1997-2004. From 1985-1997 he served in several capacities for Westvaco Corporation.

Natale earned an MBA in finance and management from the University of Connecticut and bachelor’s degrees in geophysics and cartography, also from the University of Connecticut.
