Thomas Poetter receives national scholar recognition

Thomas Poetter
Thomas Poetter (educational leadership), director of Miami University's Partnership Office, is one of only 30 university and school district educators in the nation to be recognized for his contributions to the Institute for Educational Inquiry's (IEI) Agenda for Education in a Democracy (AED) program.

John Goodlad, president of IEI, a Seattle-based non-profit organization, said that Poetter was named an AED Scholar in recognition of his scholarly leadership, his contributions to strengthening educational programs at both the university and K-12 levels and his support of new teachers.

As director of Miami's Partnership Office, Poetter supervises the university's efforts to work cooperatively with area school districts and community agencies. One of the main commitments of the office is to cultivate the partnership with Talawanda Schools, but it is also building partnerships with other area school districts and forming alliances with community agencies and organizations.

"There is no doubt that society benefits, as well as individuals themselves, when institutions work across boundaries on education and for the overall public welfare, finding ways to engage in activities together that are mutually beneficial," said Poetter.
