Oxford citizens forum set for Sept. 27
OXFORD, Ohio -- A citizens forum will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 27, at the Talawanda High School cafeteria to discuss how to bring
residents of Oxford and the surrounding areas together to work toward a better
community for all.
All residents of the Talawanda School District are encouraged to attend
and express their views.
"We want representation at this meeting to be as diverse as possible," said
Kathy McMahon-Klosterman, who along with Miami University colleagues Andrew
Powers and Steve DeLue are organizing the session.
The forum, an outgrowth of community meetings held last spring, follows up on
suggestions from the Future of Oxford Report.
"Miami has developed a number of committees, such as the alcohol coalition,
that look at ways the university can be a good neighbor to the City of Oxford
and the surrounding community. The Future of Oxford Report discusses the
importance of this relationship with the community at large and the
interdependence. This is a continuation of that process," she said.
Goal of the forum is to enable Oxford and township residents to learn from one
another and to find common ground on issues that affect the community and to
engage citizens more fully in a participatory democracy.
"As we learn more about the diversity among ourselves, we hope to better
understand how we can work together for the benefit of the community," she
It is anticipated that the forums will become a monthly event.
