Marlowe awarded a Goldwater Scholarship
OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University junior Jennifer Marlowe, of 738 Ivyhill Drive, Cincinnati 45238 has been named a Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.
The foundation awarded 316 one- or two-year scholarships, up to $7,500 per year, based on academic merit, to students in mathematics, science or engineering. It is the premier undergraduate award of its type in those fields.
Ten scholars were from Ohio universities and colleges. The foundation had received 1,186 nominations for the scholarships.
Marlowe, a zoology major specializing in entomology and parasitology, plans to pursue a doctorate in parasitology.
She is a National Merit Scholar, a member of the University Scholars Program and treasurer for the zoology club at Miami.
The Goldwater Foundation is a federally endowed agency established by public law in 1986. The scholarship program is designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.
