Miami student wins state broadcast scholarship
OXFORD, Ohio -- Jessica Haberman, a junior mass communication major with a minor in political science at Miami University, has won a $1,500 scholarship in Broadcast News from the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters.
Haberman, of 211 Pinkerton Road, Wexford, PA 15090, reports and anchors news on the university's WMUB-FM radio station, an NPR-affiliate. She is also a reporter for "Oxford Week in Review," a cable TV news program produced by Miami students.
Judging by five professional broadcast journalists from around the state was based on a student's academic and/or professional achievements and on her or his potential to become an outstanding broadcast journalist.
"I could tell she was a talented writer, and I thought her work was good enough to win," says Kevin Smith, instructor of English at Miami, who encouraged Haberman to apply.
