Miami among leaders in character development
Miami University's commitment to leadership development has been cited by The Templeton Guide: Colleges that Encourage Character Development, a guidebook released nationwide today.
Designed for students, parents and educators who believe character matters, The Templeton Guide contains profiles of 405 exemplary college programs in 10 categories. Miami is one of 21 Ohio schools in The Templeton Guide.
Miami is included for its commitment to developing the leadership potential in all students.
"By the time they graduate, 38 percent of Miami students have participated in some form of leadership education and 82 percent have been involved in community service," said Miami President James C. Garland. "By linking leadership and character development, we encourage our students to leave prepared to make a difference."
Miami's commitment to leadership stimulates exploration of character issues that will shape graduates' perspective for a lifetime of service, said Dennis C. Roberts, assistant vice president for student affairs. The university's efforts include 24 programs and services for students interested in leadership and service efforts.
International investment manager John Marks Templeton established the Templeton Foundation to encourage spiritual and moral progress.
