Miami again called a "Best Value"
Miami University once again is included in a list of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" by Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine.
The October 2000 issue ranks Miami 47th overall.
The magazine says it studied data on 589 four-year public colleges and universities and narrowed the list to the most selective 175 schools. Editors then brought the list to 100 using quality measures including graduation and retention rates, student-faculty ratios, how much the college spends per student on instruction and how much it spends to maintain library resources.
Ranking within the top 100 is based on a combination of quality and cost measures.
"Overall, the formula placed greater weight on quality (71%) than on cost (29%) because 'value' is not synonymous with 'cheap,'" said editors.
