Cuban diplomat Alzugaray to speak at Miami
Cuban diplomat Carlos Alzugaray will speak on "Reflections on U.S.-Cuban Relations" at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in 40 Irvin Hall at Miami University.
Alzugaray studied at the international division of Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, and at the University of Havana, Cuba, where he earned bachelors degrees in diplomacy and in the history of Cuba, a masters degree in contemporary history and a doctorate in historical sciences.
Since 1980 he has been on the faculty of the Raul Roa Garcia Institute for Advanced International Studies and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Havana. He has also been a foreign service officer, having been posted at Cuban diplomatic and consular representations in Japan, Bulgaria, Argentina, Canada, Ethiopia, Kenya, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Alzugaray is participating in an academic project involving scholars from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Perú, Colombia, México, the United States and Cuba, coordinated by the Association for the Unity of Our America, with the objective of producing four books on the historical, economic, socio-cultural and political aspects of Latin American integrations.
The talk, sponsored by the Latin American studies program, is free and open to the public.
