WKRC-TV to air three Miami men's basketball games
Cincinnati's WKRC-TV (CBS, Ch. 12) will televise three Miami men's basketball games for the 2000-01 season. Home contests vs. University of Dayton (Dec. 6) and Marshall (Jan. 6), and a road game at Notre Dame (Dec. 9) will be carried live.
In addition, Dayton's WKEF-TV (NBC, Ch. 22) will carry the Miami-Dayton broadcast and Dayton's WRGT-TV (FOX, Ch. 45) will carry the Miami-Notre Dame broadcast.
WKRC-TV sports anchor Brad Johansen and Steve Wolf, a former Xavier player, will call the action.
"The response from our viewers to Miami University RedHawk basketball has been enthusiastic," said William Moll, president of WKRC-TV. "For that reason, we look forward to a second year of bringing Miamis brand of basketball to our viewers. And partnering with Dayton television will extend our coverage to even more fans of Miami University."
A potential change in the package: Miamis Jan. 6 game with Marshall could be pre-empted by the NFL's American Football Conference semifinal game. If that happens, WKRC will televise Miami's Feb. 3 home game with Bowling Green instead. The Bowling Green game would be moved from 3 p.m. to noon to accommodate the live telecast.
With these three WKRC games, Miami will have a minimum of nine local, regional or national television appearances this season. The RedHawks also will appear on WSTR-TV, WB Ch. 64 in Cincinnati for their opener at Xavier on
Nov. 18. Four games will appear regionally: Temple (Nov. 30, FOX), Wright State (Dec. 19, FOX), Ohio (Jan. 13, FOX) and Ball State (Jan. 27, ESPN Plus).
Miamis first regular-season national television appearance since January 1997 will be on ESPN2 Feb. 11 against Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
