POSTPONED: Anna Deveare Smith keynote for academic symposium
Actress, award-winning author and professor Anna Deveare Smith had been scheduled to deliver the keynote address for Miami Universitys Academic Leadership Symposium at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in Hall Auditorium.
She has cancelled her appearance and the symposium has been postponed.
A panel discussion was to follow the dramatic presentation.
Founder and artistic director of the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue, Smith is the Ann ODay Maples Professor of the Arts at Stanford University. She received a fellowship from the MacArthur Foundation in 1996 to continue her work, a "new form of theatre - a blend of theatrical art, social commentary, journalism and intimate reverie." Her one-woman performances, "Fires in the Mirror" and "Twilight: Los Angeles 1992," were recognized with Obie awards, Drama Desk awards and Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize nominations. Her most recent play is "House Arrest." Smith also appears on the television series "The West Wing."
The Academic Leadership Symposium is sponsored by the Etheridge Center for Reflective Leadership, the Buck Rodgers Business Leadership program and Arts at Miami. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.
