Two Miami students die in auto crash

Services for two Miami students killed Friday evening (Nov. 30) in a car accident on I-75 near London, Ky. will be held this week.

The victims were Elizabeth Caden, 19, Oak Park, Ill, a sophomore sociology major and a member of the Naval ROTC unit, and Tiffany Painter, 19, Wadsworth, a sophomore teacher education major.

The two women were suitemates in Flower Hall and were part of a group of students on their way for a weekend in Gatlinburg.

Two men, also Miami students, were treated for injuries received in the accident.

On-campus memorial services are planned in addition to services in the women's hometowns. Flower Hall will schedule a joint service for both women at a later date. Naval ROTC is planning a service for Elizabeth at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Sesquicentennial Chapel.

According to AP, the students were riding in a 2000 Ford Explorer that state police say was south-bound near London when it was hit by a wrong-way driver, 78-year-old Harold Hollingsworth of Richmond, Ky.

A memorial service for Elizabeth Caden is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at Ascension Church in Oak Park.

Tiffany Painter’s funeral is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Grace Lutheran Church in Wadsworth. Visitation at Hilliard-Mullaney Funeral Home, Wadsworth, will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.
