Fitness: Don’t give in to the cold! 12-02

Exercise patterns generally decrease in winter, but they don’t have to, says Jay Kimiecik, associate professor of physical education, health and sport studies at Miami University. He says be creative in enjoying exercise over the holidays and be flexible with your routine.

If ice keeps you indoors, walk indoors. Watch or tape a fitness program on TV if you can’t do your normal routine. And decrease you expectations, says Kimiecik. “Just make sure you still move your body in some way. The data still show that some exercise is better than none.”

With any exercise routine, Kimiciek advises to make simple, specific goals so that you're more likely to follow through and get support from family and friends.
