MLK Day observance set

A Martin Luther King Day observance involving Miami University students, faculty and staff and Oxford residents will be held Monday, Jan. 19. The theme will be "Strengthening Our Community Bridge."

The events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a march from the Freedom Summer Memorial on the Western campus to MLK Memorial Park in uptown Oxford. From the park, marchers will go to Bethel AME Church, 14 S. Beech St., for a service scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The service will feature reflections from Miami and Talawanda students, community members and clergy.

Organizers of the Oxford MLK observance include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Vanessa Cummings and the Rev. Shane Floyd.
