Homecoming Oct. 22-23

Miami University celebrates homecoming Oct. 22-23 with a variety of events for students and alumni organized around the theme "Let the Good Times Roll!" Festivities begin at 11 a.m. Friday with a rally at the Hub.

Students will have a chance to compete in shooting and slam dunk contests in a basketball shoot-out with homecoming grand marshal Ron Harper (Miami ’86) at 2 p.m. Friday at Withrow Court. Harper is the second-leading scorer in Mid-American Conference history and a former NBA star.

At 4:30 p.m., the annual house-decorating contest begins. All students living in houses in the mile-square area are invited to compete for a $1,000 prize.

The homecoming parade begins at 4 p.m. Saturday uptown at the Oxford Community Arts Center, ending at Millett Hall. Harper, President James Garland and athletics director Brad Bates address the crowd during the pep rally at 5 p.m. at Millett. Also at the rally, winners of the house decorating contest will be recognized.

The Miami Gardens Tailgate and the Miami Family Fun Fest open at 4 p.m., with food and drink available.

Kickoff of the football game with the University of Central Florida is at 7 p.m.

Other events on Saturday include UnityFest 2004, which will feature entertainment, food and vendors from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the uptown park, and the alumni association awards banquet at noon in the Shriver Center multipurpose room.
