Students honored at College of Sports Medicine meeting


Two Miami University students received awards for presentations at the fall meeting of the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine.

Natalie Schweitzer, graduate student in zoology, was recognized for the best graduate scientific presentation for her poster “The Influence of Physical Activity and Exercise on Physiological Markers and Genetic Determinants of Blood Pressure.”

Daniel Kelley, senior zoology major, won the best undergraduate scientific presentation award for his poster “The Influence of Exercise and Physical Activity on the Metabolic Syndrome.”

The students each received a certificate and a $150 prize.

Schweitzer and Kelley are mentored by Helaine Alessio (physical education, health and sport studies), Ann Hagerman (chemistry and biochemistry) and Ron Wiley (emeritus, zoology).
