Reiss receives Ohioana award for poetry
James Reiss, professor of English at Miami University, has been honored with the Ohioana Helen and Laura Krout Memorial Poetry Award from the Ohioana Library Association.
He received the award at ceremonies held recently in Columbus, Ohio.
Reiss, who served as editor of the Miami University Press from 1992 to 2003, is the author of six books of poetry: Greatest Hits: 1970-2005, Riff on Six: New and Selected Poems, Ten Thousand Good Mornings, The Parable of Fire, Express and The Breathers.
Additionally, his poems have appeared in such places as The Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, The Hudson Review, The Kenyon Review, The Nation, The New Republic, The New Yorker, Poetry and Slate.
Reiss joined Miamis faculty in 1965.
The Ohioana Library Associations mission is to recognize and encourage the creative accomplishments of Ohioans; preserve and expand a permanent collection of books, sheet music, manuscripts and other materials by Ohioans and about Ohio; and disseminate information about the work of Ohio writers, musicians and other artists to researchers, schools and the general public.
