Dance Theatre winter concerts Dec. 1-2

11/21/2007

Alexis Marina and Lauren Schaeffer will perform for Miami's Dance Theatre concerts
Miami's Dance Theatre will present winter concerts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Hall Auditorium. The concert will feature an blend of modern dance, jazz, and ballet, set to music from many genres.

Featured will be works choreographed by director Lana Kay Rosenberg, guest artists, Dance Theatre alumna and current members.

Rosenberg choreographed "Flight" using music of the Brazilian percussion group, Uakti, whom she has worked with in Brazil. Uakti combines contemporary composition techniques with primitive instruments. Kelly Albin Wilson will perform marimba live for the dance as well.

Guest choreographers include Oxford resident Daphne McCoy with "Sibling Song," inspired by the relationship between her two young daughters; visiting assistant professor of English Amanda Adams with "Notice," a restaging of a dance she premiered with Dance Theatre in 1996 when she was a sophomore; and Shannon Vroom '06, with "Drawing a Border on Isolation."

Works by student members include "Cheyne Stoking" by Dance Theatre president Laura Dattilo, a senior history major from Pittsburgh, Pa.; "Metaperception" by senior art education major Jess Carthen, a native of northeastern Ohio; "Time Squared" by Jenna Green, a junior interior design major from Warren; and "Blinded by Restriction" by Ali Tanker, a sophomore interdisciplinary studies major.

A "talk back" follows the Saturday concert, giving the audience a chance to meet the choreographers and dancers to discuss the performance.

Tickets are $6 in advance at the Miami University box office in the Shriver Center and $8 at the door for students and seniors and $10 in advance and $12 at the door for adults. Tickets are available at the Miami box office in the Shriver Center. Call (513) 529-3200 or order tickets online, www.tickets.muohio.edu.
