The National Network for Education Renewal (NNER) awarded Miami University's partnership office the opportunity to house the organization's first academic journal, Education in a Democracy: A Journal of the NNER. The first three editions will be co-edited by John Skillings and Tom Poetter of Miami, and John Anderson of University of Nebraska-Kearney.
The NNER is a national consortium of 25 school/community/university partnerships of which Miami has been a member since 1994. The purpose of the new journal is to foster inquiry related to the mission of the NNER; articles will inform the network about issues, policies, and practices that relate to the advancement of the Agenda for Education in a Democracy and will emerge from collaborations among school, community, and university partners.
The editorial management and production of the journal will reside in Miami's partnership office under the direction of the co-editors, the managing editor, the editorial board, and the governing council of the national body. The editorial board is made up of school and university personnel from partnership sites around the country, including Jean Eagle of Talawanda Schools, co-chair of the Talawanda-Miami Partnership and member of the NNER Executive Council.
The first edition of the journal will appear online in October 2009 and will be available in paper copy editions to those who attend NNER's Annual Conference in Bellevue, Washington, Oct. 15-17, 2009. To learn more about the journal's purpose and how to submit a manuscript for review, e-mail John Skillings, managing editor, at email@example.com.
