Stiller, Biltgen honored at Luxembourg 40th anniversary

11/11/2008

Dean Ekkehard F.R. and Renate Stiller.
As part of 40th anniversary celebrations for the Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC), Ekkehard F.R. Stiller, MUDEC dean and professor of management, was presented the President's Medal and Francois Biltgen, Luxembourg's minister of Higher Education, Research, Culture and Religion, was presented an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

The President's Medal is a replica of the medallion worn by Miami University presidents during inaugurations and at other moments of ceremony. It represents the seal of Miami and includes the words "Prodesse Quan Conspici," translated as, "to accomplish rather than be conspicuous."

The medal honors those who have made significant contributions to the university and exemplify the motto through extraordinary service. President David Hodge presented the awards in October.

Previous recipients include Stanley Aronoff, who served in the Ohio House of Representatives for more than 20 years and former President Lech Walesa of Poland. Stiller has been MUDEC director since 1989.

The doctorate bestowed upon Minister Biltgen follows a Luxembourg campus tradition of awarding honorary degrees as part of anniversary celebrations every five years. Previous recipients include Their Royal Highnesses Grand-Duc Jean and Grand-Duc Henri, former Prime Ministers Pierre Werner and Jean-Claude Juncker and former presidents of the European Commission including Gaston Thorn and Jacques Santer.

Minister Biltgen was recognized for his accomplishments in office, his contributions to higher education in Luxembourg and his generous support of the Dolibois Center.
