Jan Yarrison-Rice, 2008 Sigma Xi Researcher of the Year at Miami University, will present "Nanotechnology: Here, There and Everywhere?" at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in 218 Pearson Hall. Her talk is the annual Sigma Xi Researcher of the Year Lecture.
Yarrison-Rice, physics, will describe nanotechnology research being conducted in her department. Specific areas include single molecule electronics, photonic band gap (PBG) devices and structures and nanowires. This research may lead to the development of biosensors and electro-optic devices and contribute to the field of telecommunications.
Yarrison-Rice has been awarded more than $1.9 million in external funding for equipment and research, including funding from the National Science Foundation for an electron beam lithography system.
Sigma Xi is an international scientific and research honor society that supports original work in science and technology.
