To the Oxford Community,
Please be aware: Oxford police report a burglary and an assault over the weekend involving Miami students.
Police say a female student in the 600 block of McGuffey Ave. reported that while she was awake, a male entered her apartment through a sliding door at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. He left quickly, stating he was "in the wrong house." The student was not injured and no items were taken.
Police also report that at about 3 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, two male Miami students report that after attempting to assist a female who'd been knocked down, two males assaulted them, then followed them down Poplar St., apparently speaking a foreign language. One of the alleged assailants reportedly showed a knife and threatened one of the students, at which point the students ran. Oxford police arrived and took the victims' statements. Suspects were not found in the area.
Suspects are described as about 5'8", with black hair, medium build, clean cut and wearing jeans. One wore a long sleeve blue and white striped shirt and the other wore a navy and white pin-striped short sleeve shirt. They were last seen heading east on Collins St.
Police remind students that if they are alone, asleep or away from their homes, to lock first-floor doors and windows.
Anyone with information on either of these incidents is asked to call Oxford police at 524-5240. If you notice someone acting suspiciously, please call 911 immediately.
