The Ohio Department of Commerce has announced that the minimum wage in Ohio, effective Jan. 1, 2009, will increase from $7.00 per hour to $7.30 per hour.
As a result, effective with the pay period beginning Dec. 20, 2008, and paid on Jan. 16, 2009, the starting rate for student aides will increase from $7.00 to $7.30 per hour. In addition, the starting wage for student assistants will increase from $7.35 to $7.50 per hour. Other pay bands will not be affected. The student employment Web site will reflect the new rates as of Jan. 1, 2009.
Accompanying the increase in the starting wage rate, Miami will increase the wage rate for any student employee in the student aide classification making less than $7.30 per hour up to $7.30 per hour, and for student assistants making less than $7.50 per hour up to $7.50 per hour. Students will see the increase for any work done on or after Dec. 20, 2008, in their Jan. 16, 2009 paycheck.
