Information Bulletin: Off-campus burglaries

Oxford police report three burglaries over the weekend involving homes of Miami students, all of which appeared to have unlocked doors.

On Friday, Dec. 5, residents in the 200 block of S. Main St. reported missing items including a laptop computer, two iPods, and a backpack full of textbooks. Residents stated the back door was unlocked.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, in an apartment in the 5200 block of Brown Rd., residents reported to police that someone entered their apartment and allegedly threw a television off the second floor balcony.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, in the 300 block of Tallawanda, two Miami students reported their laptop computers missing. Both students said they were unable to lock their rooms due to lost keys.

Residents are advised to engrave or otherwise place identifying tags in a non-conspicuous location on valuable items.

Police remind students that if they are alone, asleep or away from their homes, to lock first-floor doors and windows.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to call Oxford police at 524-5240. If you notice someone acting suspiciously, please call 911 immediately.
