During winter break the IT services Exchange group will be doing maintenance on muConnect/Exchange system. There will be one outage that will impact all Exchange accounts and a series of offline database maintenance outages that will cause specific groups of faculty, staff and students to experience an e-mail outage.
System-wide E-Mail Outage
Between 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, and 4 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, all e-mail users can expect to experience one or more brief outages. Each outage should last no more than 15-30 minutes.
Storage Group Database Maintenance
On each of the following dates, about 2000-3000 student, faculty and staff accounts will be unavailable:
Tuesday, Dec. 23
Friday, Dec. 26
Saturday, Dec. 27
Sunday, Dec. 28
Monday, Dec. 29
Tuesday, Dec. 30
Friday, Jan. 2
Saturday, Jan. 3.
The storage group maintenance outages will start at 7 p.m. and service will be restored by 7 a.m. the following morning. This maintenance will remove deleted messages, compact the databases, increase available storage, reduce backup time and repair corrupt information.
The IT services support desk will send individual e-mail messages to those whose accounts will be affected.
For both outages, users will not receive new e-mail messages during the outage. All new e-mail will be held and then delivered after the maintenance is complete. As usual following a restart, Entourage users may see a slow-down when they first start up, as their local cache is reloaded.
